Tourist Activities


Kensington Runestone is in downtown Alexandria. It was found by an area farmer in 1878, or so the story goes. The inscriptions on the stone indicate that the Vikings visited this area over 100 years before Columbus.

Carlos Creek Winery: The home to the largest grape vineyard in the state of Minnesota, they also have an orchard of 8,000 apple trees, and one of Minnesota's largest purebred Arabian horse facilities.

The Terrace Flour Mill is located about 21 miles south of Alexandria, just past the town of Glenwood. The mill is on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally built in 1903, it has sence been restored to its original condition. It is open for tours during the summer months, and special events and demonstrations are also scheduled during these times.

Ann Bickle Heritage House, Glenwood, is open for public viewing. This turn-of-the-century Craftsman-style home is described as being the finest home in Glenwood in its day. Of special interest are its two fireplaces, leaded glass windows and preserved woodwork. An English garden complete with a grape arbor graces the yard.
