Glacial Ridge Trail
The giant glaciers of the Ice Age which moved through west central Minnesota left hundreds of lakes and rolling hills in their wake. The Glacial Ridge Trail black-and-red signs lead you on back- roads meandering through pastoral countryside and charming rural towns. Relax at lakeside resorts throughout the area, enjoy nature, biking and birding at Sibley, Monson and Glacial Lakes state parks.

The Glacial Lakes State Trail
Paved with asphalt for 12 miles, the Glacial Lakes State Trail is located on a former Burlington Northern Railroad grade, and is generally level and wheelchair accessible. The trail's paved section extends along Willmar, Spicer, and New London. This segment has a parallel grass treadway for horseback riding. From New London to Hawick is a 6 mile long trail surfaced with crushed granite for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

The Central Lakes Trail
63 miles long, the Central Lakes Trail is built on the abandoned Burlington Northern Railroad corridor. In Douglas County, it begins in Osakis and travels northwesterly across the county to Ashby in Grant County. The trail continues westerly to Fergus Falls in Ottertail County. It passes through Nelson, Alexandria, Garfield, Brandon, Melby, and Evansville in Douglas County.

Ongoing Trail Development: This rails to trails project is in the development phase at this time. As of fall 2002, the trail is paved from Osakis to Garfield, approximately 18 miles. Garfield to the west Douglas County line is scheduled for 2004. Ottertail County will be placing the asphalt surface on the trail from Fergus Falls to the west Douglas County line in 2002.

Kensington Runestone Park Trail
Gently rolling glacial hills populated by oak, ash, maple and basswood forest. 12.0 km trackset. Mostly intermediate level trails. The loop style trail system winds around two small lakes. Trail maps are available at the visitor center which is a remodeled dairy barn. The building is heated and includes bathrooms and a small kitchen. The park is open 8:00 am to 10:30 pm. Andes Tower Hills downhill ski area is 4 miles away. The Minnesota State Ski pass is required and sold by the park staff.
